'Complete and Utter Horror:' Ex-Detroit U.S. Attorney Barb McQuade's Response to Matt Gaetz For Attorney General

University of Michigan law professor Barbara McQuade, who served as Detroit's U.S. Attorney from 2010 to 2017, had little good to say Thursday about President elect-Donald Trump's pick of Florida Congressman Matt Gaetz for attorney general.

"Complete and utter horror, Matt Gaetz is incredibly ill suited for this position," said McQuade, who appeared on MSNBC.  "He lacks experience, he's never been a prosecutor, he practiced law only for a couple of years before he started to run for statewide office as a state rep in Florida.

"This is a position that has to be based on law and and on facts and based on his comments and behavior in the past I don't think we should have any confidence that Matt Gaetz can be that leader."

The pick is particularly controversial considering some baggage Gaetz carries.

He resigned from Congress on Wednesday, just days before the House Ethics Committee is set to vote on releasing a report on allegations of possible sexual misconduct, illegal drug use and accepting improper gifts, according to the Washington Post.

McQuade, who is a regular commentator on MSNBC, went on to say:

"This is an organization that is 110,000 employees. There  are prosecutors and civil lawyers, FBI DEA and ATF agents of the Bureau of Prisons, statisticians at the Bureau of Justice statistics, grant makers."

She concluded that it "is a complete tipping on its head, the principles and the integrity of the Justice Department."
