A Macomb County Circuit Court judge has dismissed charges against a Shelby Township man who stabbed and wounded his mother last year, ruling that he's not mentally competent to stand trial. He was shot and wounded by police after the stabbing.
The Macomb Daily reports that Macomb County Circuit Judge Julie Gatti dismissed charges of attempted murder and assault with a dangerous weapon against Miles Farish, 32, last month after the Center for Forensic Psychiatry determined that his mental competency is “not restorable."
He has been in custody.
The publication reports that Farish is expected to be placed under the guardianship of his mother, who is arranging, with assistance from Adult Protective Services, where her son will live.
The stabbing took place early in the morning on Jan. 9, 2024, at the Shelby Oaks Apartments on Utica Road. Authorities said Farish stabbed his mother and demanded that officers come and kill him. He fled on foot with the knife.
Officers demanded he put down the knife and shot him multiple times after he walked toward them with the weapon, authorities said.
