It's been a week since HGTV fired "Rehab Addict" star Nicole Curtis, a Michigan native, after a two-year-old video surfaced in which she is heard saying the n-word.
Now, in an Instagram post, she says, "so many moments of kindness have come my way this week via my amazing family, my friends, my neighbors, my fans, our city leaders & A lot of folks that were in my DMs who chose to have calls with me to find a pathway of understanding in all of this."
She also said she's still in the business of fixing up homes.
"I was in Detroit today, on my jobsite. (Yes, we still do this work without a network time slot — always have, always will) and We are ever more committed and excited with moving on in this new direction," she wrote on Instagram.
She also posted this: "Someone personal (not crew) had access, demanded $, I didn’t pay-here we are." The Detroit News suggested in a story that she was hinting that someone tried to blackmail her over the damaging video. She did not elaborate on the Instagram post.
In her posting, she talked about all she has accomplished.
"In 15 years of this “ little” show, we have brought approx 20 million dollars into distressed neighborhoods between Minneapolis and Detroit (even 6 episodes in Akron (Lebron work) saved so many historic properties, inspired saving of so many more and most importantly, to us we’ve raised money, awareness & change for pediatric cancer, military veterans, school programs, animal rescue, elderly (to name a few) as we’ve always said -you never have a bad day helping others and giving your time to those who need it."
On February 11, RadarOnline reported Curtis, 49, saying on video, "Oh, fart n*****," during a taping of Rehab Addict.
After saying the words, she is heard on the video pleading with the crew of her show to nix the recording, Radar reports.
"Nick, you gotta, you gotta — can you kill that? Fuck my life."
Shortly after it surfaced, Curtis' team told the Detroit News in a statement that Curtis "is deeply saddened by the hurt her words have caused."
"She takes full responsibility for their impact, regardless of context. What occurred was a clear slip of the tongue — a mistaken version of one of her well-known expressions — spoken after 17 hours of physically demanding work and very little sleep. Even so, she understands that intent does not erase impact, and she is truly sorry."
